vaccine after-care

If your child is fussy, crying or has pain after immunizations, you may give them a dose of acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin/after 6 months age).  See the dosing sheet below.  Always follow the weight guidelines for the correct dose of medication.

If your child has redness or swelling at the site, give them Tylenol or ibuprofen (after 6 months age) and put a cool compress or ice pack on the area for comfort.  This inflammatory reaction will typically resolve in a few days.  If there is worsening pain, please call our office.  A hard lump at the injection site will sometimes persist for weeks.

Remember Tylenol= Acetaminophen (generic) and Motrin=Ibuprofen (generic)
